My grandmother Elizabeth "Betty" Shults (pictured at left and below) was my inspiration for the pillow fight 4 cancer project.....

....she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had to go through chemotherapy.  I remember seeing her lose her hair and thinking how uncomfortable it must be, especially in bed during chemotherapy.  I was pretty young, but remember it well. I have always wanted to do something to help cancer patients and thought of a soft, warm pillowcase for people to  rest their heads on during chemotherapy.  In the beginning, I wanted them to be pink, but realized that all different colors was a lot of fun.

My grandmother was a wonderful, kind, fun and an especially gracious person.  She had 10 grandchildren and we all miss her very much.  We are Gene, Alex, Libby, John, Carter, Anne, Emmy, Kate, Claire and Daniel.   We all still talk about Gram and about the special things she did for us and how special she made us all feel.  She always greeted us with big hugs and kisses. The bird at the bottom of the gift card we distribute with our pillowcases is in memory of her.  We used to call her "grandma Birdie" because of her long, beautiful legs.

My grandmother's great memory, spirit, and gift for giving live on in the Pillowcase 4 cancer project. I hope you will join us in our "Pillow Fight". Sincerely,  Libby
