Hi my name is Libby...... I started a project this past summer with the help of a company named www.ChenilleMagic.Com to make pillowcases for cancer patients going through chemotherapy. My Grandmother Elizabeth "Betty" Shults was the inspiration for this project. The "Minky" chenille fabric was a perfect choice for our project because of it's incredible softness. The idea was to make something that would be comforting and supportive for people who have cancer. I took the idea to my local Cancer Society and they loved it. They thought this fabric made all the difference. We made almost 50 pillowcases our first try, and all 50 of them were given out in less than a week to people recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Soon the word spread, and we began to think about a formal organization that would make more pillowcases and spread the word - and soon PillowFight4Cancer.org was born! Each Pillowcase bears a note with our mission statement: A Gift from caring hands bringing you encouragement, hope, love and comfort. As our organization grows, we have now made about 700 pillowcases and many more are in the works!  The "Minky" style Chenille fabric is key and is incredibly soft.  The pillowcases have been distributed by my local American Cancer Society, Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC & to individuals all over the U.S. (California, Oregon, Washington,D.C., Cape Cod, Florida, New Jersey) Our project has also been featured in The Kingston Times Newspaper!

In March, my high school hosted a Pillow Fight 4 Cancer Community Day at which we made about 50 pillowcases. Everyone loved being there & we hope to do it again, as soon as we can.  It was a very rewarding day. In June, we plan to have a tent at our Relay for Life and we will sell pillowcases as a fundraiser to make even more pillowcases!  Our theme is a "Sleep Over". My best friend Meghan will co-captain with me to help raise even more awareness about PillowFight4Cancer.org

We also hope to sell the the pillowcases at some point on our web site so that we can take those profits, and make more pillowcases, as well as raise money for Cancer Society patients and research. If you'd like to help, we'd love to hear from you info@pillowfight4cancer.org or refer to information below on making your own pillowcases, and where to purchase fabrics, deliver finished pillowcases etc.
